Historical hero of the American past

One reading of the novel is that Sheriff Bell is a historical hero of the American past but one whose heroism is inapplicable (or irrelevant) in postmodern America. Explain how you agree or disagree (or would modify) this reading both of Sheriff Bell and of the novel’s theme. (Some critics have argued that Chigurh is a kind of antihero who represents post-modern capitalism in a particularly unrestricted fashion.)
